Rolf Method of Structural Integration (SI)
What is it and why should I know about it?
The Rolf Method of Structural Integration, developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf from the 1940’s until her death in 1979, is a somatic (body) therapy which brings:
- Greater ease and grace in movement
- Better athletic performance
- Deeper breathing
- Better body alignment in the field of gravity
- More energy
- Less chronic pain and anxiety
- More self-confidence
- Better emotional balance
- More mature behavior
Structural Integration is sometimes better known to many people by its brand names of Rolfing®, Hellerwork, and Aston-Pattering®, among others. I was trained as Rolfer® by the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado in 1980. Since my membership affiliation is now with the Guild for Structural Integration instead of the Rolf Institute, I no longer use the brand name of Rolfing® to describe my work, but now use the generic name: Structural Integration. Same work, different name.
I practice in Pleasanton, CA and serve the communities of the tri-valley: Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville, as well as outlying areas such as Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro, Tracy, Fremont, and San Jose.
